The sweltering rays of the afternoon sun beat down against chocolate skin. Forehead slicked in sweat, Xander heaved a humid breath. The heat didn't usually bother him. He preferred warm weather, honestly. But something about the sun mixed with his nerves had him eager to get inside. [break][break]

Hopefully, Amelia Livy got here soon. Xander waited for her on the docks. To get to his gym, they'd have to take a ferry. It might have been easier to wait at the gym, but he wanted to make a good impression. Especially after the lackluster one he'd made during their speed date.[break][break]

The black button-up and dark blue denim jeans he wore now were far better than whatever disheveled clothes he'd worn then. Xander even combed his hair and tied it back into a ponytail.[break][break]

"Let's hope I don't fuck this up, Fran." [break][break]

Raboot looked up from the can she'd been kicking between her feet and offered him a reassuring smile. Xander had this. She knew that. All he needed to do was be himself, and Lia would like him.

Small hands marked by the slight callusing of a lifetime of practising archery fiddle with the hem of a black sundress, ever-short nails being adored by a layer of nail polish that is far beyond what Lia would usually bother with given the type of life she leads – sparkling and tangerine in shade.

She’s nervous, but perhaps that is to be expected on a day like this, for while Lia has a tendency to go about things in life bravely and with confidence, dates are… quite out of her comfort zone, to say the least.

When was the last time she did something like this?

Aside from the speed dating event at Slateport’s contest hall, that is.

While trying not to overthink all these things and definitely doing a terrible job at it, she offers the Fletchling perched on her shoulder a few loving scritches, the small bird chirping happily just as the ferry finally reaches the dock that lead to Ever Grande City's gym.

When she stands, she takes a deep breath, and yet, despite all of her nerves, it’s softly that she smiles once stepping onto the dock and seeing Xander Belmont waiting for her.

He didn’t, but she’s glad he actually bothered. It says a lot to her.

Wow. If this were a contest for best dressed, Lia won hands down. He particularly liked the ribbon in her hair. The red fabric drew his eyes almost instinctively. [break][break]

"And let you take the boat ride alone?" there's a smile, but in typical Xander fashion, it's a flat one. He knows it won't look the best, but it's the attempt that mattered. That said, Xander spared her the prolonged exposure. [break][break]

He ran a hand down the front of his button-up, "Likewise. You look great, by the way." too forward? Xander swallowed. Times like this, he wished he had his father's swagger. Idris never seemed to have a problem talking with anyone. [break][break]

"Who's the little guy on your shoulder?" he asked, gesturing to the Fletchling.

He smiles at her in a flat way that lacks much joy, and for a second, Lia finds herself wondering if Xander Belmont isn’t happy to see her after all. Or, is it perhaps that he’s just as nervous as her? She hasn’t known him for long and the most they’ve talked has been through text messages, so the answer isn’t obvious to her. Still, her own smile remains, eyes of gold meeting those of an all too similar shade.

”Ah... Thanks, you do too.” Lia can feel slight warmth rising to her cheeks, manifesting itself in the form of rose tint on her skin. Trying to pay it no mind, her gaze follows Xander’s gesture, a light chuckle escaping her when glancing at the chirping Fletchling on her shoulder. In turn, the small bird tilts its head as if questioning. ”This is Arrow, he’s a good friend of mine.”

Small beady eyes look at Xander then, and the Fletchling tilts its head to the other side.

”That’s a cute Raboot you have there, by the way.”

By some miracle, his dry smile didn't scare her off. She was even blushing. Xander's date count wasn't high, but it's enough to know rosy cheeks were a good sign, the chuckle an even better one. They soothe a wave of anxiety nipping at his nerves.[break][break]

Maybe this wouldn't go horribly.[break][break]

"Hello there, Arrow. It's nice to meet you." he chimed, waving a finger at the chick. "He seems like a curious fellow." [break][break]

His golden suns drifted to Raboot at the mention of her. The rabbit was juggling her can from one knee to the next, paying little attention to the conversation. "That's Fran." he shook his head, "I rescued her from some bad people awhile back. She's a sweetheart but guarded." a lot like him. [break][break]

Xander nudged Fran and started walking to the boat, assuming Lia would follow.[break][break]

"Have you ever been to an art museum before?"

Xander’s greeting is met with excited chirping, Arrow even giving a few little hops while remaining on Lia’s shoulder. It makes her smile, in a manner that is as amused as it is somewhat apologetic. ”That he is. I think he likes you!”

Which is a good thing, admittedly.

And it’s with that thought that her attention turns to the Raboot, listening carefully to what Xander says about her. A rescue. If reading into it enough, it reveals quite a few things about both the pokémon and its trainer alike.

”Yeah? Hi, Fran. I hope we can be friends.”
[break][break]
She means it too, although it’s for the shy pokémon’s sake that she makes sure to keep relative distance; walking next to Xander but opposite to Fran.

”I have been to a few, yeah.” To no one surprise, Lia loves museums of all kinds. ”I’m much more familiar with the few pieces at the Natural History Museum, though, since I used to work there and all.”
